Just sayin' "hey"

Thanks so much for rebooting this site -- I was feeling lost without my daily fix!

I formerly posted as leavinglaspinas. Hello from gorgeous Vancouver BC where everything seems to work and stop signs are more than a suggestion. I've been busy trying to re-establish my residency and introducing my dogs to snow. Once I get my land legs I hope to be posting some thoughts in retrospect. Hope everyone is as well as can be.

@Mike -- I got the plates for my car in the Philippines after a year, and about 3 days before I left. There's always hope. Lol

@Jackson -- yeah I know. I used to bitch about all the taxes and it's one of the reasons I left but you know what? In some ways it's worth it.

For your amusement, the salesman I bought the car from is Filipino who has been here for 18 years. I did have a discussion with him about the license plate situation and we both had a good laugh about it.

So here's another thing. I had to send my car back to the dealer yesterday to fix a weird problem. Today they sent a guy to take me to the dealership to pick up my car. I asked him how the traffic was and he said it was terrible... and I kept waiting for it to be terrible... and it never was. A 25+ km drive took about 20 minutes, in almost rush hour traffic through the city. I recall that it would often take me up to 90 minutes (sometimes more) to get home from work -- a distance of less than 7 km.

Not trying to rub anything in, I'm just here to tell you there is life after da pilipines!

Last Christmas, I was on the point of calling the guys from the Guinness Book of Records! 25 Kms (Antipolo to Ortigas) took over 4 Hours! - The last hour was on foot!

Back, One of our cars was making a squealing sound when the ac was turned on. Now any moron knows that means a loose fan belt which I told the wife. But she says it's not (first car she ever owned) and off to the dealer we go. Dealer listens to it and tells her need a new ac compressor and it will cost P25,000. Again I tell wife it's a loose fan belt and I can prove it. We leave the dealer and same day an American mechanic stops by our place and I ask him to look at it in front of wife. Off we go outside, pop the hood, start the car, turn on ac and the squealing starts. Kano looks at me and wife and asks for a crescent wrench and says it's just a loose fan belt.Back, One of our cars was making a squealing sound when the ac was turned on. @Mike Exactly the same happened to me! - Idiot Driver was telling me it was the A/C Compressor! - And he had a mate who could fix it for 20K! When no one was around, I adjusted the belts! - A few days later I told him that I got it fixed for 10K!

@Tuco, As for the trip to the dealer, some times you got to spend a little time and money to prove them wrong and hear that sweet music flow forth from their lips "You were right." Current wife decided she needs to learn to driver so she went to a "school" 8 hours total and given a license. Not a learners permit but hard copy. Before I kept telling her I would teach her to no avail. After spending P8,000 on this "school" she di not know where the light switch was, what the parking brake was for and so forth. The day of the fire I old he to get on phone and call the FD in case I out not gt it out. The car was safe on the other side of the house so no worry the. What happens? She jumps in the car and takes off to fiend house and on the way has a head on with a parked car and pretty much tore up the front of both cars. Now what do I hear? She wants me to teach her to drive and take me in (pay a bribe) and get me my drivers license.@Tuco, As for the trip to the dealer, some times you got to spend a little time and money to prove them wrong and hear that sweet music flow forth from their lips "You were right."
