Dear people of Cagayan De Oro,
This coming local elections will determine the fate of Cagayan De Oro, and possibly the fate of Northern Mindanao, for future generations. And it all boils down to two choices: vote for Dongkoy Emano or don’t.
I’ve been living in Cagayan De Oro for almost 30 years now. And a good part of my life was spent under the Emano administration. Growing up, I didn’t notice the things around me until I reached a certain point in my life where I became more observational and often compare CDO with other more successful cities in the Philippines such as Davao or Cebu. And the more I analyzed the things that are going on in CDO, the more the question nagged at me – what the hell is the mayor (at the time) doing!?
It started with the horrible traffic, then with the high amount of poor and homeless harassing everyone who is not poor and homeless, the fact that there’s literally nothing being addressed on the poor and homeless being given jobs and shelter, the crap ton of stray animals roaming around everywhere with no animal shelter, the bizarre city planning (A high-end mall next to a city jail, which is next to a hospital? Shanty towns relocated next to high-end venues?), low amount of law and traffic enforcement, lack of classrooms, little to no improvement of schools, overcrowded public transportation, public transportation outnumbering privately owned vehicles 5 to 1, sub-par health care, and so much more. All culminating of me reading news on the rampant corruption coming from city hall and the city council, both of which were pro-Emano at the time.
Prior to the Sendong flood in 2011, I have read so so SO MANY news articles on graft, corruption and neglect charges against Dongkoy Emano, ALL of which were “conveniently” dropped due to either the oh-so-speedy response of the city council to drop those charges ASAP, or Emano himself being “absent” from any and ALL court hearings. After Sendong, a group called Save CDO held a petition for a recall election. Pro-Emano supporters harassed all petitioners, with Emano refusing to take responsibility for their actions (here’s a pro-tip: refusing to take responsibility for another’s actions, especially if those actions are done in your name and the perpetrators are your supporters, you are STILL held accountable no matter how many times you refuse).
And if Emano is not doing anything related to politics, he is often being submissive of the concerns raised by ANYONE who is not poor. Believe me, there ARE news about Emano having knee-jerk reactions to people who badmouth him. And Emano’s reaction in return is basically the same – that anyone who says bad things about him are all working for his political rivals. I’m serious, google the news article about Emano having a fit because someone said “bwisit na mayor”.
Cagayan De Oro, Dongkoy Emano IS NOT the man you should be voting for. Why?
Dongoky Emano is NOT a “man of the poor” – he is only considered as such, because he defends ONLY the poor, and he would blame everything else on the middle and upper classes. His “pro-poor stance” basically amounts to “let the poor do what they want and only give them the bare minimum – i.e. short-term solutions to long-term problems such as his infamous “piso-piso” program that severely damaged CDO’s real estate, and he would also refuse to relocate the poor, which result in many shantytowns located near public places such as malls.
Dongkoy Emano is NOT a “man of the people” – he only hangs out with businessmen and politicians who would swear allegiance to him. He and his cohorts would deliberately sabotage CDO in a way that it would result in more poor people, with the most recent examples include his nephew Ian Acenas slashing budgets from health care and city planning in the name of “justice and protection”, and Dacer believing that actual justice is making sure no law can touch Emano. If you have any opinion that he doesn’t agree with or it would cause a negative reaction, he would consider you as a political enemy. And if Emano is “innocent”, why does he become extremely defensive in the face of criticism? Why does he hide whenever fingers start pointing at him? Why does Dacer, Acenas and anyone else tied to him have to step in to speak for him when he clearly can’t? Why does he need a large entourage wherever he goes, even for minor things? Even without evidence, Emano’s reactions and actions alone are indicators that he’s behind a lot of things, just that he’s both confident and paranoid.
Dongkoy Emano is NOT a “wise man” – he acts like a complete child, often resorting to childish arguments when he becomes defensive (“It’s not MY fault! It’s NEVER my fault!”, “If you’re complaining so much, then YOU be the mayor!”, “Someone is plotting against me! Help me, my people!”, etc.). He is also VERY petty. As stated above, he reacts VERY negatively if anyone does something as little as say something bad about him and he gets word of it. His most famous public drama is the “suspend me” drama. Google it. Believe me, you WILL facepalm a lot.
Dongkoy Emano is NOT a “businessman” – growing up in Cagayan De Oro, too many independent businesses have failed to grow, or pre-existing businesses simply failing during the many many years he was running due to a large number of factors, mainly with the poor, the unemployed and the uneducated depending on brand name loyalty (unless your name is Jollibee, Chowking, Nike, etc, you’ll never stand out). Many have been taught by Emano to be stingy with their money, and that such businesses are run by EEEEEVIL middle and upper class people. As a result, a good majority of the businesses here are sari-sari stores and carinderias that offer the same things as every other local establishment, with the occasional mall and one big business; there’s literally no competition. Without competition, there’s no “uniqueness” to CDO’s businesses.
Dongkoy Emano is NOT a “man of vision” – if you have heard of the saying “never make a mountain out of a molehill”, then Emano is a HUGE practitioner of the opposite. He considers a small stretch of road over another small road as a “flyover” (actual flyovers are usually longer, and are a lot more useful in addressing traffic), he considers a beat-up old elevator in a messy market as a “world class elevator” (there is no such thing. At all) and he approved of the Laguindingan international airport (which is anything BUT international; it only does local flights), and so much more. Oh and to top it all off, a lot of projects he approves on his own are painted in eye-searing purple.
Dongkoy Emano does NOT “protect”. He ordered to dump all bodies of the Sendong victims at a landfill because “There is no other place for them”, followed by BLAMING THE VICTIMS for losing their lives during the flood. And remember what happened during Typhoon Pablo in 2012? Emano refused to accept a death of a citizen who died DURING the typhoon in order to take the credit of making the city “casualty-free”. Emano believes that a terrorist attack is only considered as an attack if it involved more than 5 people killed (so if ISIS attacks CDO, will Emano just brush it off as unimportant because there’s not enough people dead? Or will he try to evade responsibility and pin the blame on the victims?). So even if you help Emano achieve his goal as mayor, he’ll sure as hell WON’T help YOU when your very life is threatened by either a terrorist attack or an environmental disaster.
Most of all, his party, the Padayon Pilipino Party (PDP) is NOT a party at all – it’s a political dynasty. Dongkoy’s son, Bambi, is already the governor of Northern Mindanao. Like his nephew Acenas, Bambi is also defending his father in any chance he gets. And further proof that PDP is filled with overly-dramatic children? Look no further than Benjo Benaldo – used a video of himself flexing in workout clothes as his election video, a closet gay (like Emano, he gets violently defensive if his sexuality gets questioned) and attempted suicide just to grab attention.
So please, Cagayan De Oro. Voting for Emano will only result in the following:
-Abysmal city planning
-Government officials acting like children
-Half-assed schemes (night cafes in the middle of a very busy road)
-Implement-and-forget ideas (disco-esque streetlights that become broken and forgotten within a few months)
-Growing number of homeless people as well as incidents of homeless people harassing everyone in the name of Emano.
-Useless events at the last minute (i.e. a fucking “Texas-style” party before an election).
-Buildings painted in eye-bleeding purple
-Very minor events/projects he treats as “ZOMG THIS IS SUPER DUPER HUGE GAIZ!!!!”
To anyone who lives in Cagayan De Oro, please spread the word: do NOT vote for Emano and anyone in the Padayon Pilipino Party. Because PDP does not represent change. PDP represents vanity, arrogance, high-school drama, severe retardation and corruption. To those who are curious, please google and research on Dongkoy Emano and his history of corruption and neglect, and spread them throughout the internet; let Kagay-anons everywhere and the rest of the country know how corrupt of a person Emano and his PDP group is. Cagayan De Oro suffered a lot under the Emano Administration in the 1990’s and the 2000’s, and the Moreno administration saw a growing change that undid a lot of his neglect. Refusing Emano would result in more changes that will let CDO truly bloom as a city.
Change can bring a lot of good, and voting for Emano is only refusing that change.
P.S. If you consider me as an “Emano-hating whiner” who should NOT have the right to diss your “king”, then please imagine this: Imagine yourself as someone living in Cagayan De Oro for many years. You want something different and want to see improvements that would make CDO shine brighter than Davao, Cebu and even Taguig, but odds are you’d be outright ignored, and possibly even publicly harassed, because it doesn’t agree with Emano and the PDP. If you so much as say “but why?”, Emano will get extremely defensive. And if you even dare to do something on your own for the benefit of Cagayan De Oro and it goes against Emano and his council, Emano will disown you immediately, point at you and brand you as a “political traitor”.
P.P.S. Still not convinced? Here’s a simpler comparison: Dongkoy Emano is the Filipino equivalent of Kim Jong-un, only older and yet even more childish. People who vote for Emano is only accepting his and his party’s “purple communism”.
P.P.P.S. You’re voting for a guy who gets butthurt and whines like a defensive baby because of FREAKING GRAFFITI ON A WALL. I’m serious. Vandals wrote “Klarex pa rin” on a flyover. Dongkoy Emano acted like it’s a big effing deal, as if it’s the worst thing ever. JUST A COUPLE OF GRAFFITI. ON ONE FLYOVER.Published in
