Filipino Religious Ignorance: They Are Clueless To What They Believe

Filipino religious ignorance

Filipinos constantly bow down and pray to graven images/idols. They have idolized this “Santo Nino”

The Ten Commandments

Exodus 20: 1-17 in the Bible

1 And God spoke all these words:
2 “I am the Lordyour God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.

4 “You shall not make for yourself any graven image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lordyour God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lordyour God, for theLordwill not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lordyour God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.11 For in six days the Lordmade the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lordblessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lordyour God is giving you.
13“You shall not murder.
14“You shall not commit adultery.
15“You shall not steal.
16“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

ME: Do you believe in the bible?

ME: Do you believe and obey the 10 commandments in the bible?

ME: Do you believe especially in the 2nd Commandment?

FILIPINO: Of course, I believe all the commandments of god.

ME: Do you bow down and pray to graven images of Santo Nino?

bowing down to sto. nino

Filipina stupidly and ignorantly violating the Commandment of the god she “fears”.

FILIPINO: Yes, that is a part of our religion.

filipinos idol worship

Filipinos ignorantly and stupidly in direct violation of the Commandment of their god.

ME: Then you really DON’T believe in the 2nd Commandment.

FILIPINO: Why you say that? What is the 2nd Commandment?

ME: So you believe what you don’t even know? How can you believe in something you are clueless about???

FILIPINO: It’s my faith

ME: Ignorance and stupidity is your faith? Do you fear god enough to at least know his commandments? Or is saying “I’m a god fearing person” just a catchy phrase that mindlessly flows out of your mouth? I would think if you really “fear god”, you would AT LEAST know his commandments!

Dude, I love your blog man! Too many foreigners that move here start their own blog about the Philippines and well, they are waaaay too nice about the things they write about. I’m an American and have been here for 6 years now and I have already broken down more times than I care to mention. This place is so fucked and people not only refuse to see it, they blindly accept it as being totally normal. Their blind pride makes me want to projectile vomit all over their simple-ass faces. Any time I try to get someone to “wake the fuck up”, there is always something not allowing them to accept what I’m saying. Probably the whole, “I’m just a foreigner” thing and that I “don’t know what the hell I’m talking about because I’m not a Pinoy”. I do my best to look the other way but I’ve always prided myself on calling out people on their wrong doings. Out here, when I do that, I just look like a rude tourist even though I’m looking out for the people around me. Keep it coming, I’m loving your posts!

Right on man. I am totally convinced that they are incapable of change. And what makes me laugh my ass off is when you comment on the stupidity, ignorance, laziness, and total absence of logic and reason, they suddenly have command over the NBI, DFA, and Congress and suddenly half of their family members are DFA officials, NBI officials, and Congressmen, and all they have to do is pick up their cell phone and text one of them to have you deported.

And that is the sad thing. That is their common reaction to criticism. To deny and expel the critic while pushing forward and onward in stupidity, ignorance, and blindness. Tsk tsk tsk.

Awesome post. I have a funny story that somewhat applies to this. My daughter was just recently born at St. Luke’s Medical in BGC. Im filling out the paperwork for the nurse while my wife was sleeping and we had a comical exchange.

    Nurse: What religion are you?

    Me: I am Christian

    Nurse: No…what religion are you?

Me: (now realizing what she means…I can’t resist) I am CHRISTIAN

Nurse: Should I just write Catholic?

Me: umm..’Catholic’ is not a religion. It is a denomination of the Christian faith. Just like the Episcopal church – which is also the main sponsor/benefactor of this hospital.

It’s amazing to me how influential the Catholic church is to Filipinos and how most will believe any and everything that comes out of the mouths of their sacred “monarchs”. The RH bill debates were great fun (and continue to be) and what is even more amazing is how the poor people of this country who directly benefit from its passing can’t see past the BS coming from their beloved church. I could go on and on but you get the idea…

Your blog is awesome man…keep it up

The Filipino is who religion was designed for, especially the Christian varieties. Our local priest used to boast how well his son was doing in high school, then college. When he wasn’t driving around in a new FX that is. Our local church has a statue of Mary and the Baby Elvis… complete with hair do and side burns… I kid you not. Actually it is not our local as that is locked because the woman who has the key hates the priest and the priest hates her so he holds local services two barangays down! When a relative dies he turns up only on the last night, before the service the next day, to see what kind of money amounts he is going to get. His ‘nephew’ the altar boy who is identical to him, takes the money. If you pay enough you get a wedding service at noon, if you are poor you are married at 6am with full lechon BBQ feast at 7am, cold greasy pig left to attract flies and warm Sprite included. Don’t get me started… oh, I already have.

Filipinos come around my house collecting cash for their various churches and when I tell them I am a believer in the Old Gods, Odin, Thor and Freya… most have no clue. So long as I say the word God they think I mean the one out of 2890 identified deities they believe in. I have been invited to Bible Study and they haven’t a clue. So I invited my host to my goat sacrifice instruction session… he declined which I pointed out was not fair and he hasn’t been back to try and borrow money for months.

They aren’t a bunch of 5 year olds. 5 year olds grow up eventually. They are though a flock of sheep and sheep are about as dumb a mammal as they come.

we had a ”problem” with a neighbor. we went to our local church to talk it over with the pastor. His idea of solving the problem was a motorcycle, 2 people and a gun to shoot the offending neighbor!!!!
this church is quite big in da feelippines.

What makes the Filipino religious idiots the most annoying is their core philosophy of “Bahala na”, which is short for “leave it to the will of God”. This isn’t just simply having faith…it’s an excuse to be lazy and not be involved. It’s their way to remain the “victims” of the landslide of evils that are, in fact, their own doing.

Now, when it comes to religious interference, that’s just a comedy parade there. In 2010, when PNoy started talking about the RH Bill, the CBCP (Catholic Bishops Council blah blah blah) got together and prepared their “nuke” option…a direct threat to PNoy that if he pushed through with the RH Bill, they would excommunicate him. This has ALWAYS worked in the past, not because of any president’s religious beliefs, but because of the money the church has. But, for once, this president said “go ahead!”, and the CBCP was aghast! As the press started to build about their threat and his response, they backtracked on it with the equivalent of a “Oh, hey! We were just kidding!” They then followed that up with a threat to go to the wives of the politicians to “encourage” them to convince their husbands to vote in favor of the CBCP’s stance.

And then there was the bishop who wrote GMA asking for a Pajero “because it’s my birthday, and I would like a Pajero to reach followers in hard to reach areas”. He got the Pajero, never did any outreach, but ultimately had to give it back when the matter got exposed to the press years later.

In the land of the blind, the greedy, one-eyed idiots are king.
