“If they embrace communism why are they living in America?”
I asked this question from a group of Filipinos at a Filipino owned gallery that I was a regular guest of. I was participating in an art exhibition with photos of homeless Filipino children sharing the gallery with other young Filipino artist. That time I didn’t know how many of the young college educated artist are hard core commie sympathizers. As you may know Filipinos are good at not sharing their opinion openly with a kano and I’m also embarrassed to admit I was one those nice but stupid kanos who sympathized with Filipinos due to lack of understanding the culture. We used to meet at the gallery, drink together and watch some Filipino movies usually made by some of their artist friends. They new about my genuine concern for the poor and homeless children and they also knew I was sponsoring a couple of children in Mindanao via World Vision. Eventually they opened up to me and reveled their thoughts and believes.
“A good way to find out how a Filipino honestly thinks is to get him drunk.”
The shit will eventual hit hit the fan, 100% guaranteed. That’s how I heard about how much they hate and blame the USA for everything. I was also surprised the level of anger and resentment they harbor. I told them you are in the wrong country if you think the USA is so evil. Their responds were usually about how this country owes Filipinos and they earned the right to be here. Just the usual entitlement narrative. They told me stories about stolen gold and millions of Filipinos killed by Americans and some of them also argued that the Philippines would be better off today if the Japanese would have stayed. They were talking about Communism being the only solution. Once it was clear to me how brilliant they were with their logic I confronted them. Since I’m Eastern European and we have historic experience with Communism plus had been a victim of colonialism and countless wars I argued with them using our history. They were caught off guard really did not expect a white dude to talk history that way. I think they are used to deal with Kanos who agree with them on everything or just keep silent because they don’t know what to say. The white colonizer and the victimization theory was not working with me. I said despite our sad history we are not interested in playing the blaming game like Filipinos do. We take responsibility for ourselves and you should too!
As you may know Eastern Europeans never colonized and slaved others and never even adventured outside of the continent. However they were colonized and conquered and slaved by others including non-whites and Muslims such as the Mongolian Empire and the Ottoman Empire that had plenty of brown people in it including blacks. This all sound trivial and very childish way to counter their argument but their excuses are based on this principle: Filipinos are relentless victim of colonialism everywhere all the time and that explains everything. Just a short note for you readers: Eastern Europeans in general don’t practice political correctness and don’t suffer from white guilt. We are just the opposite: we are proud and embrace who we are! We don’t hide our feelings and we (sometimes aggressively) let you know what we think. We are very different than Western Europeans in that sense. Therefore a typical Eastern European will be in a collision course with a leftist Filipino. That’s just the rule of nature.
“If you play stupid games you win stupid prizes!”
I wanted to give them their own medicine in the spirit of “you play stupid games you win stupid prices” so I went into full assault. I said to them: You can not bullshit me with your vicitmhood mentality and will not get sympathy from me! We wish we were colonized by the Spanish and not by the Muslim Ottomans and I wish we were colonized by the Americans and not by the Soviet Union! You got a juicy deal compare to us. We were the victim of Asian Imperialism (Mongol Empire) the same race Filipinos belong to the Mongolian race!
Even though it is true I would not talk like that. I just had to play by the same rules they play. This is their way, their logic and the way they operate. They just got their own medicine.
Well that did it, they hated me. They warned me that I could get killed in the Philippines if I talk like this. Looking at their expression I knew they meant it. My wife agrees and begs me not to socialize with Filipino men when I’m in the Philippines she thinks I will be dead within 5 years or less unless I completely avoid them.
I was no longer welcomed at the gallery but I had no intention going back either. I no longer support those children in Mindanao. My wife looked at their report cards and their photos and explained to me in detail why those children are not poor and most likely the children of some local government workers or their friends with connections. I was conned.
