Drug stores in this country are killing people.
Drug stores administer prescription medicines without any prescriptions at all. While to the more educated this might be a convenience vs. going to see a doctor I’ve certainly been prescribed a fair share of medicines that require special guidance such as having medicines with food for example that can bring on stomach ulcers or not to mix with certain other foods which might reduce the effectiveness of the drugs.
Drugstores sell alcohol, even cigarettes and junk food. Yet in some towns ALL the drug stores don’t sell condoms.
As typical with Filipinos, they may speak English…they certainly don’t understand English. Many drug store staff are untrained. Take these two examples
Example – A
me, do you have vitamin C?
me, pointing to the shelf…. what’s that!
Staff are: that’s C vitamin Sir
Example – B
do you have Micardis (A blood pressure drug. Pharma name Telmisartan)
Do you have Telmisartan?
No sir ….
Do you have Pritor (another brand of same pharmaceutical composition)?
Can you see the frustration that I could have been led on a goose chase around town simply because the pharmacy staff don’t know the different variants of the same drugs.Published in
