Let me start by saying this —I read a book around 2/3 yrs ago called Bangkok days and in it he describes his arrival in Thailand and the years after that.
In the book he said the first thing to do was to find shelter, then to find where to eat, and find your way around, getting familiar with your environment in other words.
The next thing to do is reinvent your life and get your story straight as to who you want to be and how your new friends when found will see you it can be a C.IA agent retired a chief of police the options are endless .
Remembering you can be anyone you want but just be sure you have it straight and not get caught out how embarrassing would that be for you, so you need to be careful in what you say and to whom.
once you have done that you will need to go and meet your new instant friends, and the best place to do that is find out where all the experts on all manner of things drink every day, head there to meet your new friends, remembering they did the same thing as you are doing, not so long ago, now keep it zipped until they except you into the group, overtime you will become friends with lots of different groups listen watch and keep it zipped up there is a rank and you need to be able to identify who is who [top dog].
Well I live in Angeles and we have a whole range of experts here and on any subject you want to put up, and to get the right advice, after awhile you find out who to ask L.O.L..
I would not put much faith in what they say but it makes them feel important, and to be asked and listened too, on there knowledge on all manner of things related to the Philippines, like Pensions V.A.s travel Pinoy’s transport and how to fix the traffic, how to run a business here in the Philippines the best pussy and medical advice which is very important, and the list goes on and on.
Its easy to spot them they will be in the same place every day like they have not left except to change on of there 3 shirts they own, sitting on the same chair with the same type of booze in front of them, with the same packet of cheap cigarettes.
The other thing is, most of them have came from there mundane lives to here to just sit around all day getting drunk and handing out advise to who ever wants it.
Always remember most have never left the place they arrived at when coming here, but will be experts on anywhere you want to mention in the Philippines so be careful what you believe.
Most have nothing to go home too, so they bad mouth the country they left and its never good its referred too as a shit-hole and they are glad they left and not returning, its important to remember they have nothing to go back too,so cheap booze and a room to live in with some impoverished young female to them is heaven.
I see these people every day and it makes me smile I continue to wonder what there true story is and about there past lives , and who they left behind, was there a wife was it alcohol that was behind there demise, are they hiding out, are they desperate men trying to live the dream, or is it failure and they can hide here and put some importance back in there lives living around the poor desperate here in the Philippines and feeling superior around these very poor people ignorant ? .
I guess we will never know the answers to this but for me it is interesting and something I will continue to wonder about.
Why am I here I have retired and have been for some years now I have a home in my country of origin and I spend up to 4 months a year at home.
I have a Filipina wife who is still working at home and next year retires will we get back together ?she is a good woman one of the old style ladies from this country not the new generation of rude in-polite morons which now are more than 60% of the country and under 25yrs old.
I come from a great country and proud of it not always its citizens, but that can be said by anyone from anywhere,I live a comfortable life here and feel better that I have reduced the booze by 90%.
Just one of my rants and what I have been able to take note of here I find the subject interesting am I right am I wrong who knows I guess you will tell me so fire away ———
This is just a small part of my thoughts and what I amuse myself with most days, looking a the country and what peoples lives must be like, something I was lucky not to have been force to live like, in poverty and nothing to look forward too. I look at this country with pity and sorrow so many will never know anything better than the lives they live…..
